Road Trip to Disney

In the last two years, we've embraced the road trip. Obviously, it saves money (especially when the first tank of gas was only $1.52/gallon with my Kroger card!), and Jeff and the kids actually like taking long road trips. I reserve the right to book a one-way ticket home if needed. ;)

We've got a pretty good system. Jeff does at least 80% of the driving while I navigate, pass out snacks, gather trash, and keep the electronics charged. We are not efficient in our gas mileage or our packing though. We pack this tank down with everything I think we might possibly need. I'll take well-prepared over efficient.

Jeff and a co-worker were selected to speak at an international conference in Orlando, so we took the kids out of school and made a week of it. The Fowlkes flew down and joined us. We threw our plans together so quickly it would make the hard-core Disney addicts cringe. Since we stayed in a condo off-site and went on one of the least crowded weeks of the year, it was still very doable in a short time. Since the Fowlkes are die hard Harry Potter fans, we worked in both WDW and Universal. I really think you need more than a week to do both and still have some downtime. We were pretty exhausted 4-5 days into it. #themeparkoverload

We left last Friday right after school and arrived Saturday afternoon. Evan was a little under-the-weather, so Jennifer stayed at the condo with him while the rest of us had a late night at Magic Kingdom.

It was not too crowded so we were all able to ride several rides. We all liked Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. The boys rode it two or three times; the adults took the competition very seriously.

Space Mountain was closed the first time we went to Disney in 2009, so Will, Nate, Ashley, and I rode it for our first (and my last!) time on Saturday night.

I was not a fan and spent the whole ride wondering if squirmy little Ash was going to come out of her seat. We all survived and the boys were planning to ride it again!
