1st Annual Buffalo River Float Trip

Nathan hates it when events are called the "1st Annual (Fill-in-the-Blank)", but I think that even he would agree that floating the Buffalo with his friends and their families should be an annual event. We had a great time and perfect weather! The 3 oldest boys had their own kayaks, and they did great! The adults and younger kids rode in the canoes. Even though the river was very full and very fast, no one tipped.  Jeff took some of the boys up Friday night to camp, and the rest of us joined them Saturday morning.

We were all worn out at the end of the float. Ash even snuggled up with me in the hammock for a little snooze. Later that evening, we kept an eye on the radar as storms moved to the north and south of us. Just after we got our burgers grilled and S'mores made, some rain moved in. We stayed pretty dry in our tent. Of course, the rest of my family snoozed soundly while I woke up at almost every sound. The Collins family spent most of their night fighting off a few raccoon raids. The little bandits scattered trash everywhere, got our cooler open, and made off with some watermelon.

While we all agreed that the float trip should happen again, I'm not so sure about the camping. (Sorry, Dad! I just don't think it's my thing.)  It's always so much work to pack/unpack all of the stuff for camping, and with the rain, we have to wash and dry everything!  Next year, we're thinking of getting a cabin! ;)  We ended our weekend with at big, country breakfast at Ferguson's on the way home.
