Near Miss

So far, we've survived 8 years of parenting without a single trip to the Emergency Room. However, we almost broke that streak today. I really thought that Ashley would cause our first urgent care visit with all of her flipping, climbing, and overall crazy antics. While she was in fact the *cause* the trip, Nathan was the injured party.

We went to pick him up from a sleepover this morning. While we were visiting with the other parents, Ashley joined the boys who were playing outside with light sabers. Three boys spent the night together without incident. Little sister shows up for 5 minutes and inflicts a bloody gash in her brother's forehead!

Fortunately, our pediatrician's office is open for a few hours on Saturday mornings. We made it in just before they closed and didn't even have to wait. Our doctor was able to close the wound with surgical glue. No stitches! It was really the best outcome possible considering how our morning started.

Nathan for School Board

Several weeks ago, Nathan's class participated in an essay contest sponsored by The Education Advocate. The topic was "If I Were a Member of the School Board". The winners were announced on Thursday, and Nathan was thrilled to learn that he had won 1st Place! The prize was a $50 Wal-Mart gift card, and he will also have his essay published in local newsletter. Way to go, Nate!

UPDATE: Nathan and the other 2 essay winners were asked to attend this month's LRSD School Board meeting. Part of their essays were read aloud, and they each received Superintendent's Citation for their achievement. Congrats!

Daddy Daughter Day - Part 2

After a full day of activity that I will save for a later post, Jeff and Ashley got ready for the "1st Annual Daddy/Daughter Sweetheart Ball" at our elementary school. It was about as fancy as any event held in a cafeteria could be. We updated the flower girl dress that she wore this summer with a red ribbon and matching hair bow. Daddy bought her special silver heart necklace just for the event. In Jeff's completely unbiased opinion, she was the belle of the ball.

Daddy Daughter Day - Part 1

Yesterday was all about daddy/daughter time. Jeff and Ashley started their day at church for the "Daddy & Daughter Pancake Party".

This year, I asked Jeff to make sure to get a picture of them together since we didn't have one from last year's event.
Of course, Brett gets to do all the Daddy/Daughter activities threefold. Here's a picture of him with the Krebs cuties: Morgan (7), Lydia (4) and Grace (10).

Super Bowl Sunday

As you should already know, I'm not a fan of football or any sport for that matter. I attribute my lack of interest in sports to 1-not having brothers and 2- my dad not watching sports when I was a kid. But now that I live in SW PA there are no acceptable excuses. These people bleed black and gold. So we had a super bowl party at our house on Sunday night and I tried, I really tried to watch the game but I just got bored. So the kids and I painted Steelers T's. They turned out really cute. They had everybody at the super bowl party sign their name on their shirts.

White Out in WLR!

After years of lamenting how we never get the big snowfalls, we've now had the snowiest winter in 30 years! The weather forecasters have to have a catchy title for each of the big snow events, so Channel 7 dubbed the most recent one "Snow-Plosion 2011".

While our friends in NWA are measuring their snow in feet, we were happy with the mere 7-8" that fell here yesterday. It was great fun to play in and should be melted by tomorrow. I'm trying to upload a video from yesterday in the midst of the mini-blizzard. Please ignore the poor quality of the video. Thick gloves + small camera ≠ great videography!

Everyone and their dog (literally!) was out enjoying the snowfall. We let Lucy run in the streets off-leash for the first time. As you can see, she loved the snow and her new found freedom.

Snorkeling Snowman

Our snowman might be dreaming of warmer weather, but I'm rather enjoying this winter. We've had more snow than we usually get but have somehow avoided the nasty sleet and freezing rain. I know that I will regret saying this. In fact, I'm almost scared to say it, but I actually wanted a little bit of freezing rain this time. What?! Let me explain...we got a new sled to use on this monstrous beast of a hill that we live on, but we have not been able to try it out in all the powdery snow. I'm not wishing for the power outages and impassable roads that come with the ice storms, just a little slickness that melts before Monday. Is that too much to ask? Probably. We might get out and try the new sled this morning anyway. I will let you know how it goes.

Old Man Adams

Today was the 100th Day of School. I'm still not sure what makes this day worthy of a celebration, but any reason to dress up is okay with Nathan. Today's theme was "Dress Like You're 100 Years Old". I borrowed a walker from work, and we just happened to have silver face paint (I hope it's safe in hair!) and fake glasses. After winning the last costume contest, Nate was disappointed that there was not a competition today. Like I said, he really gets in to it.

We ate at Ponderosa tonight and they had face painting for the kids! We were there for an hour and a half but the kids had a good time!
