Make New Friends But Keep the Old...

...one is silver and the other gold!
Caldwell Elementary Brownie Troop c. 1984

Ashley wanted to start Girl Scouts this year, so yesterday she joined the Brownies at her school. I asked mom to dig up an old picture of my troop from almost 30 (gulp!) years ago.

I snapped a picture of her before school in her vest, but she didn't even wear it for the meeting. Glad I spent an hour sewing those patches on the night before! ;) She had fun though, so I think it was worth it. If you need any Samoas or Thin Mints this spring, we will be glad to hook you up!

Scorcher in the Rock

We watched the forecasted high for Saturday creep up all week long, so we knew it would be a very hot day in Little Rock. I don't think any of us were prepared for triple digits. The last time it was this hot for a game, I was 8 months pregnant with Nathan!
Nate and Ash were the only kids at the tailgate. They did pretty well and kept themselves entertained with sidewalk chalk, the Fowlkes new Baggo game, and tossing the football.
At gametime, the kids and I waited for the sun to go down before we went in to the stadium. It was still HOT with hardly any breeze. Whew!
There was a pre-game discussion and tutorial on the controversial "throwing the A". I was completely out of the loop on this sensation sweeping Hog Nation. I like the idea of a hand signal, but think it should be simple and only require the use of one hand. We'll see if this sticks...
