In one of my posts last month, I sang the praises of Blurb. It is the software/website that I used to have this blog printed into a hardbound book. I have just about finished my second Blurb blog book (say that 3 times fast!) for 2009-2010 entries. One thing that was not great about the software was the spellchecker. It flagged almost all names and most other proper nouns as misspellings. I thought some of the suggested spellings were funny, so I wrote a few of my favorites down when I was spellchecking the second book. (Yes, I'm aware that I'm a total dork.)
Brandon = Random (so true!)
Mikayla = Milky (actually, she has the darkest complexion of any of us)
Racheal = Tracheal (this helped Jeff learn how to spell my weird name)
Amanda = Armada
Ashley = Rashly
Tyler = Styler
Mandi = Mandril
Brett = Biretta
Brooke = Broke
Sean = Sedan
Branson = Ransom
Pomfret = Procreate (LOL! My college dorm-I'm sure some of this went on there.)
Just thought I would share a little something funny on this dreary Sunday afternoon.

Night at the Museum
The kids' school had a "Family Science Night" at the Museum of Discovery this evening. The main exhibit right now is "Cold-Blooded Creatures". If you are afraid of snakes, I would recommend that you stop reading now!
While there was a variety of toads, frogs, and other slimy things, the snakes were the main attraction. The first thing my kids wanted to do is touch the HUGE, albino python.
I don't know exactly how long it was, but I would guess at least 8 feet! There was also a large boa constrictor that some kids (thankfully, not mine!) let wrap around their heads & necks for a picture. I'm all for a good photo op, but it's called a constrictor for a reason.
I have a healthy respect for snakes, but I'm not overly scared of them. Spiders, however, are an entirely different matter. If there's ever an "Arachnid Night", I'm out! But back to the snakes...
At one point, we saw a live show featuring the snakes of Arkansas. The guy took all of the non-venomous ones out for a close-up look. He left the venomous ones in their cages. However, I was little concerned that the only things holding the plexiglas in place were binder clips!! I'm pretty sure that the big rattlesnake could have escaped had he/she really wanted to.

"We're Best Friends!"
Lydia came over last night for what is surely the first of many sleepovers. They even have matching pajamas (Ashley's Christmas present from the Krebs family). These sweet girls love each other so much! I hope they will truly be BFF!
It's hard to believe that our babies will be 5 in March. Here's a little stroll down Memory Lane:
Double Baby Shower at Unity - 2006
Garvan Gardens - Spring 2007
Lydia's 2nd Birthday Party - March 2008
More matching outfits - Christmas 2009
St. Patrick's Day - March 2010

He Shoots...He Shoots Again...He Scores!
Nathan's about halfway through his 3rd season of basketball at Immanuel. To quote his coach from couple of years ago, "We don't keep score, so we're undefeated!" His team has really improved since last year. If they did keep score, I think that they would legitimately be undefeated.
***I tried to post a video of Nathan scoring at his last game, but I couldn't get it to upload. I might try again later.
The Big Snow
Yet again, the weathermen were wrong about the snowfall totals in central Arkansas, but this time we actually got MORE than predicted -- 6 inches!! The most surprising part is that it was all snow and not "wintery mix".
This was Lucy's first snow, and she LOVED it! She's really made for this kind of weather. One quick shake, and most of the snow is gone from her coat. I tried to get a cute picture of her, but she was uncooperative as usual. I took these last night when we had a couple of inches on the ground:For the first time, Ashley actually enjoyed playing in the snow! She outlasted Nathan this morning! Here are some pictures of my little snow angels. I use the term loosely because they've not exactly been angels lately. In fact, they got a letter from Santa on Christmas morning that said they were almost on naughty list.
And before I get any comments regarding it, Ashley fell asleep with her hairbow in her hair last night. I did not do her hair before we played in the snow, though it did make for cute pictures. ; )

BCS = Big Chance Squandered
It's sad but true. While a 10-2 season is still great, it's a little bittersweet. We just got home from the roller coaster ride that was the Sugar Bowl. It was up (pregame), and down (first half), and up (second half), and then most decidedly down (final minute).
One thing that did not disappoint was the support of the Hog fans. The Razorbacks literally took over New Orleans. We made some signs, and one that supposedly was on ESPN pregame promos read "Welcome to the Pig Easy!" We heard spontaneous Hog Calls from Bourbon Street to Cafe Du Monde. Let the good times roll!
Since one afternoon in downtown NOLA was plenty for us, we stayed in Mandeville. It is a little gem just north of NO across Lake Pontchartrain that reminded Jeff and me of Key West. Tyler found us a nice house to rent, and the property owners left us some great restaurant suggestions. The town was comparably quaint and perfect for us. In spite of the loss, we had a good time with good friends.

Looking back and looking forward
Happy New Year! We are not big NYE partiers, and last night was no exception. Both kids made it until about 10:30, and I wanted to turn in with them. Jeff talked me in to staying up, and then he fell asleep on the couch just before midnight!
Entering into 2011, I find myself thinking back on the first 10 years of the new millennium. In 2000, we got our first new car as a couple. That is the same year that we moved into this house and shortly thereafter got our first dog. The dog and the car have changed, but we're still in the same place and have added a couple of kids along the way!
It all goes by so quickly, and I am sad to think that in 10 short years from now I will have both freshman and senior in high school. Time flies! But here's looking forward to a good 2011. May you all be blessed!
